with some extra time on my hands (putting it mildly), i decided to try planting some vegetables using these things called earth boxes.
they are basically rectangular tubs with the soil suspended a few inches from the bottom using a screen and you put water into the bottom and you just add water through a tube to the bottom and the plants get their water from beneath instead of adding water from the top.
then you put a plastic covering around the plants so that weeds don't grow.
Fresh is worth something. Where I live it can frost into late may so the instructions are to plant after average frost. Still hot days and cold nights. Win some years, lose others. our city water is very expensive too.

What they dont say is why they havent retirned to jehovah. They regularly go beyond what is written.
The meetings are boring. Doctrine is constantly changing. You cannot use your own head. Not that my head is always right either.
An example is: I am able bodied, have free time, and a truck. Do you think they will ask me to do any relief work? Aside that I do not meet their definition of spiritual, I might give a sandwich to the non in neighbors.

with many people's jobs been put and "on hold" and other people's jobs going away for good, i couldn't help but think about all the different jobs i've had over the years.
i have been able to adapt and make do.
maybe this will kick in again....or maybe not.
Lower pay ,fewer benefits, part time. Amazon has a reputation as a slave driver.
In the longer term think about the jobs that may come back. Be a machine technician or repairman or programmer. Engineer products or processses. Do not become the button pusher though. I became very good at looking at reengineering things to bring cost down, or just to make manufacturing feasible.
My feeling is the waiting tables for tips and flipping burgers will decline.

I think they are supposed to decide the amount sent each September looking at the financial well being of the congregation. it will be hard to maintain the same level if everyone doesnt get a new job. I expect a downward pressure on wages and hours and increase in living expenses.

They didn't go as far as inventory here. So far 2 neighbors have brought something we needed. A witness has had some excess vegs, old. I know 2 women with non w husbands, one widow close by but have not heard details. All 3 have had neighbors looking in as a usual course for years, the same as my neighbors do me.
I am mobile, have enough money to buy anything I want, but am not being greedy and buying things out from under others.
